When Life Gives You Lemons…

01/17/2012

Throw out those lemons and buy some Calamansi! Actually, the saying is “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” and boy has life given me some lemons. It’s been several weeks since my last post and I apologize for the lack of activity. After my wedding, I took a two week honeymoon in Boracay and Cebu, returning to Manila on January 1st. On January 4th, my mother passed away and I flew back to Los Angeles for her funeral. Lemons indeed. But as I was saying… When life gives you lemons, throw out those lemons and get yourself some Calamansi! Then take that Calamansi and make some Tuyo Calamansi Pasta to comfort your soul and mint calamansi-ade cocktails to soften the sting… Welcome to “Grieving with a Foodie”.

I wish I was one of those cool bloggers that wrote recipes, but, unfortunately, I’m not. I’m far too lazy. Instead… here’s a picture of the ingredients I used to make my Tuyo Calamansi Pasta.

So, you basically mix that shit up and you end up with some pasta that looks like…

As I’m currently in a state of grieving, dinner needed to be washed down with a healthy amount of alcohol. Normally, this drink would be better with tequila and lemons, but I had a lot of Vodka left over from the holidays and calmansi kicks lemon’s ass. Here’s a picture of my vodka lemoncalmansi-adecocktail.

Thanks, Dexter! I’m sorry that there is no calamansi in Saudi Arabia :( I, too, had a hard time acquiring calamansi when I was in Los Angeles. Most FilAms opt to plant a calamansi tree in their backyard to fill their needs. Hopefully you can return to the Philippines in the near future!
